Jan 19th, Saturday

Docked in Aruba around 830am. Beautiful as we remembered. Went ashore and shopped. Chris looked for a Tanzanite cross with no luck. Just bought some cookies (none at the buffet) and some tee shirts.

We came back to the ship for lunch at the buffet (Soft serve ice cream). It’s been disappointing at the buffet. It seems they want you to eat at the dining rooms. We spent an hour or so by the pool to start our tans.

The central common struggle for many on board is laundry. Regardless of what I’ve said Chris insists on doing some laundry. While there are washers and dryers made available on each deck (and soap is provided), but the dryers are terrible so take twice as long s they should. As a result, people can get testy if they can’t get things done as quickly as they wish. It reminds me of my early days at work trying to get enough time on the central computer. Our dinner companions told us that on their pervious cruise there were actually people fighting over the wash (I don’t think we’ll get to that).

In any event, while dinner was good (maple nut ice cream), Chris was very tired and called it an early night while I went to the show, a virtuoso on the Paraguayan harp (news to me that there were two types of harps). Anyway an underwhelming show, but as one of the guests has said, “a bad day on the ship is still pretty good!”

On to the Panama Canal.
