January 29th, Tuesday

North by Northwest towards Los Angeles, the weather is cooler. Morning walk was into a strong wind going towards the bow and pushed from behind going towards the stern. I suspect that until we get South of LA swimming is out of the question. Interesting people at breakfast – several Australians – good lively discussion.

I planned to go to the morning talk by Jerry Labriola about DNA, Genetics and The Lindbergh case. On the way I decided to see if my luck was holding so I tried the video poker machines again and hit a progressive royal flush. Maybe I’ll be able to pay for the trip by the time we get home!!! Still went to the lecture which was interesting.

Lunch nothing to talk about and we spent the afternoon relaxing and reading. Dinner was fun as usual with our companions who told us they would probably be moving to another table with some people they met from England. We had prime rib and I had a cheese cake for dessert.

As we passed up the coast we saw a school of flying fish and a whale. Didn’t bother with entertainment – a flautist! On to Los Angeles.
