Melbourne greeted us at 8 am with a surprising number of people in boats. Weather started out grey but cleared up beautifully. We had a great day around the city.
We took an all day tour that started with a drive into the boondocks to an old mining town called Sentinel Hill. Toured the town and had lunch in one of it’s restaurants. We watched and exhibition of Gold smelting into a bar of 100 ounces.
After lunch and touring the town of Bellarat we went to an animal preserve and got up close and personal with kangeroos, emus and koala’s. The we drove into Melbourne and got a city tour (it’s a beautiful city). We got back to the dock early and did a little shopping at a market near the ship then we were too late for dinner in the ship restaurant so went to the buffet.
The evening entertainment was earlier than usual, but unique only because they had a chip’s crew talent contest the previous night and the winner gave a repeat performance. He was great, he sang unchained melody and was better than the comedian that followed him.
We got on deck early for the sail away at 9 pm and it was quite a sendoff. A fireworks display into a beautiful cloudless sky with a full moon rising over the city.
Well on to Sidney.
