2nd day in Sydney, another beautiful day. Called Stephen for his birthday and then spoke with Mom glad everyone doing well.
After breakfast and resting for some time, we ventured out on the Quay where the ship was docked and walked over to the opera house past shops and the ferry quays. Lots of people out walking and taking pictures of our ship and the harbor scene. We past several restaurants and picked a Chinese one with tables out on the walkway and had some appetizers for a relaxing al fresco lunch. It was relaxing and the food was terrific. I bought some Sunday news papers and we walked back to the ship through more and more people. It’s getting really crowded on the docks. We sat on the balcony and read until both of us had to nap. I fell asleep on the balcony and was awoken by the horn of the Sun Princess arriving in the harbor to join us.
At dinner we met our new companions, Colin and Mavis, who are going from Sydney to Singapore – they live in Sydney. They came to Australia in the 1960’s as part of an Australian immigration program, the 10 pounders. For 10 pounds, your travel expenses were paid for to encourage new immigrants. During dinner we departed and past the QE2 in the harbor. There were thousands of people seeing us off along with over 100 small boats that accompanied our ship all the way out of the harbor. I’m sure some of the small ones came close to getting swamped.
