February 26th, Tuesday

Weather getting warmer, 75 in the morning as we arrived in Brisbane. Breakfast at the Lido and off to our bus for an all day excursion in Brisbane. The “big” scandal on board is that there are missing egg cups from the Lido Buffet. They had the Cunard crest on them and the rumor is that they were taken as souvenirs by those who got off in Sydney. Watch ebay for them!

We started with a trip to downtown Brisbane. It’s a city of 1 million plus with a modern looking downtown area with expensive housing al through the area – houses go for $500K and up near the city and $1 million plus on the river over looking the city.

From there we traveled to about an hour to a remote pub for lunch and some souvenir shopping. At lunch we met two ladies we hadn’t seen before who area also going round the world and live in Gaithersburg, Maryland!

After lunch we traveled to Steve Irwin’s (Croc Hunter) Australia Zoo and Wildlife Preserve. It started raining but there were plenty of covered areas. We saw an aborigine group doing various dances and demonstrations. There was a stadium show that started with a snake show that also was to teach people about snakes and what to do in case of bites. Then they brought in several beautiful birds that were trained and flew around the stadium to handlers that allowed us to get close to them. The final part of the show involved a large crocodile in the stadium pool that was lured out of the pool several times by handlers feeding the croc.

It was quite a zoo and even though it was mid-week and raining there was a crowd there. Supposedly on the weekends they get more than 5000 people there.
Back to the ship by 530 with just enough time to dress and get down for dinner. Afterwards we thought about going to the theater but there was a live broadcast of the NY Philharmonic in North Korea, so we stayed in and called it a night early.
