February 29th, Friday

Arrived in Port Douglas, Australia early morning and moored in the harbor. It has no dock large enough for the ship, nor is the harbor big enough. Port Douglas has become an upscale resort town in the last few years, according to some passengers who have been here before.

We had and early breakfast so we could make our excursion, which lasted all day. We went to an animal habitat – more kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and crocs. It was very warm and humid and we needed plenty of water before we left. From there we headed into the mountains and rain forest and traveled to some sight seeing and then lunch at a beautiful lodge near the beach. From there we drove to Cape Tribulation and it’s beach which had warning signs with bottles of vinegar because the stinging jelly fish can kill. There were also warnings about sharks and manta rays and salt water crocs. No one had a desire to go swimming.

From there we took a one hour river cruise and saw more crocodiles – it reminded me of Alaska and all the eagles that were featured – only here it’s crocs!

Back to the ship by 6pm, showered and a dinner at the Lido deck and we were both exhausted. Chris and I are looking forward to five days at sea before Borneo.
