February 9th, Saturday

We arrived in Pago Pago early this morning. It’s a beautiful island and we took a tour on an open bus. While it was hot in the sun, it was not humid. We saw a Cava ceremony presented by a local village family which welcomed us. There are 65000 people on the island and 2500 in their community college, which struck me as a large number. Our tour guide was a Mormon and he expected to graduate from the local college next year and attend Brigham Young in the states. There appears to be limited opportunities for the young people here.

We took it easy in the afternoon, napped, went to the pool, read. Chris brought pictures of our family to show our dinner companions and they had pictures of their home and family in Auckland.

The entertainment was unusual. A mime with a twist, he did his act with many masks and while good, it got boring quickly.
