Ko Sumai, Thailand – a beautiful island off the coast of Thailand. We were ferried into the port and since we were the first ship the driver had trouble finding our doc. Eventually we made it and we got on 4WD vehicles and went on a 30 minute ride to an Elephant and Monkey park.
Great fun watching how the trained elephants did their tricks, including walking on two feet and giving massages to two of our party. Then we got a chance to feed a baby elephant and it’s mother bananas. Then we saw how trained monkeys climbed palm trees and twisted coconuts off the trees for harvesting. Apparently they harvest 300,000 a month that way. We got to shake hands with the monkeys.
After that we were jeeped to another park where we saw a demonstration of making a Thai food specialty and tasting. Chris tried it, I didn’t - too spicy. Then we got an ox cart ride around a rice paddy. Of course we have all kinds of pictures.
On to a buffet lunch at a nice island restaurant – great food again. After that we were jeeped further around the island to a rubber tree harvest demonstration – wo eee! – and then to a beautiful beach for an hour of cooling off before we were ferried back to the ship.
I’ve got two days worth of pictures to edit before I can update my blog.
Formal night again and then to bed early. We’ve got a day at sea and then Singapore which everyone says will be a highlight.
