March 7th, Friday

At sea on our first of two days before we get to Hong Kong. .

After my morning constitutional we had a good breakfast with some interesting couples from Sydney and England. One of the men was a physicist and he and I hit it off talking about some esoteric scientific subjects. Most of the people we meet are really shallow. The most complex things they talk about are their pets – this was a great exception for me. Chris enjoyed the conversations with the other people at the table.

I was really tired so had to take a nap before lunch after editing my pictures from Borneo. We had lunch with two couples we’d met before who are also going round the world. One couple went from NY to Sydney on the QE2 and switched to the Queen Victoria there. They live in Hawaii. The other couple we’ve had lunch with several times. They live on Long Island and he’s a retired NYC Police Officer – he didn’t know Frank. Both of these couples have taken the round the world cruises frequently. The Hawaiin couple go every year!!! Chris and I are amazed! Apparently they go for the cruising not for the destinations – but they both must have money! It ain’t cheap.

After lunch we went to a great spoof of a Sherlock Holmes radio show put on by the entertainment staff with audience participation – It apparently is a Cunard tradition and was great fun.

Practiced my golf swing a little then got ready for dinner and the Captain’s cocktail party. Same folks as usual there but the pina coladas are good as well as the snacks. Had lobster for dinner and a chocolate dessert that was good but kept me up late.
